Course Outline

National 4 Mathematics contains four Units of work – Numeracy, Expressions and Formulae, Relationships and Added Value. To achieve the National 4 Mathematics Award, learners must pass all of the required Units, including the Added Value Unit.

In order for you to reach your full potential we expect you to:

  • Attend class regularly – National 4 Mathematics is a taught course and excellent attendance is required. 
  • Come prepared for each lesson and be ready to learn from the start of the lesson
  • Meet deadlines for classwork and homework
  • Seek help if experiencing difficulties
  • Prepare thoroughly for each assessment
  • Have a scientific calculator for use in class and homework tasks

Following the completion of the above Units and acheiveing a pass in each Unit Assessment learners will complete the Value Added Assessment. The Value Added Assessment consists of two assessments – (One is non calculator and the other is a calculator permitted assessment.) The Value Addedd Assessment is based on work completed withinn Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 3. The learner is expected to demonstrate skills acquired in the Course and use skills in a wider range of situations and sometimes in integrated ways.
